“What’s for supper?” That single question make’s me crazy. My god I just figured out what’s for supper yesterday. You mean I have to do it again? I came across a cool looking pasta pie thing while perusing Pinterest. Check it out here: Cool Looking Pasta Pie Thing.
My first thought was that it’s just lasagna with a different shape. While that’s basically true, I was super curious if it would work and stand up like that. So, for that night at least, I had an answer to that craze-inducing what’s for supper question. Here’s how it went (after I dragged myself to the grocery store for the ingredients):
After crawling halfway into a lower cabinet and rummaging through bakeware, I was all set to start the next step of standing each individual noodle upright in the 9-inch springform pan. Five noodles in and I was seriously questioning my commitment to this whole deal. I got some Netflix going on my phone and was nice and distracted while I completed this tedious task. In actuality it only took about 5 minutes…if that…but my brain swirls around and does jumping jacks during a task like that.
Once your noodles are upright, spread on a 16 oz tub of ricotta cheese mixed with an egg. Remember your ground beef? Just dump in a jar of sauce and pour over top of noodles. You’ll need 2-1/2 to 3 cups of sauce.
At this point, it goes in the oven to bake for 15 minutes. I never trust spring form pans so I put a cookie sheet underneath it. After 15 minutes top with 2 cups mozzarella cheese. Bake for another 15 minutes. Let it rest for at least five minutes after it comes out of the oven. Baking is tiring!
It looked so cheesy and wonderful, but I was afraid it would fall apart as soon as I opened the pan. I maybe should have put it in something before I opened it up but I took my chances.
It tasted pretty good. I really like the crispy cheesy pieces. It was a little on the dry side, which isn’t for everyone. Some people might like having some extra sauce on the side. All in all it was a fun recipe to try and while it was similar to lasagna, the unique way it’s put together made it different enough that I would make this again. I’d call this Pinterest try a success!
