I’m a big fan of bargain shopping. Ibotta is a great little app to help me spend less on some things that I’ve been buying forever. Once you have the app, you can get cash back on tons of items from tons of different stores. For example, right now there are cash back offers at Target for Bud Lite ($2.50-$4), Nesquick ($1.25), Coca-Cola ($1), green tea ($0.75), batteries ($1.50-$5), and Clorox wipes ($0.50) to name just a few. Any brand offers are usually $0.25 cash back on staples like milk, eggs, and fruit. Target has 294 rebates available. Walmart has 388 rebates. The list of stores that participate is far too extensive to list. There’s grocery stores, convenience stores, dollar stores, big box stores, and restaurants.
HOW IT WORKS: Download the Ibotta app from your app store. Sign up is basic and easy. You will be awarded $10 just for signing up. That’s pretty awesome.
WHAT NEXT: Go shopping at your favorite participating store. Scroll through the offers available for that store. When you tap on an item you will be prompted to “unlock” the reward. Just tap on the “unlock” bar to unlock. You will also have to verify your purchases. I usually do this when I get home. I’m not sure how it is on other devices, but on my iPhone there is a green circle towards the bottom of the screen that says “Verify Purchases.” Step 1 is to scan the products bar code, and step 2 is to take a photo of your receipt. That’s it.
GETTING YOUR CASH BACK: It will take a day or so for the cash back to show up in your Ibotta account. You can request a withdrawal once you have reached $20 in cash back. Withdrawals can be made into PayPal or Venmo accounts. You do not have to link your accounts right away. You can also purchase gift cards. Some gift cards require a minimum of $25. Considering that you get $10 just for signing up, reaching that $20 minimum is not hard.
MY EXPERIENCE: I have been using Ibotta sporadically for a couple of years. The cash back offers have increased and gotten better over time. My biggest problem is that I forget about it. When I finally do remember it and scroll through the offers, I get frustrated with myself because I missed out on cash back offers for items that I’ve recently purchased. I currently have $23.50 in my account. I’m sure if I had used it for every shopping trip since I first signed up, I would have gotten triple that in cash back…at least. I think this is way easier and much more fun than couponing — I’m waaaaaay too unorganized for that!
BONUS: I opened the Ibotta app today to find an offer for a $5 if I redeem an offer by 3/1. I will definitely be doing that! Score!
YOUR TURN TO GET FREE MONEY: Download the Ibotta app to your phone and sign up to get your instant $10. Don’t forget to use it like I do! It’s like ripping up a dollar bill when I miss out on offers because I’m scatterbrained!
